After a long and arduous year and a half as a closed military zone, and just a week after a breathtaking snowfall blanketed the region, Mount Hermon has finally reopened its gates to the public—marking a moment of celebration and resilience for Israel’s north!

Tuesday morning saw the long-awaited return of visitors to Israel’s iconic winter destination, a sight unseen since the start of the war. While skiing enthusiasts will have to wait a little longer—the war left its mark, with severe infrastructure damage, including direct missile strikes on two cable cars—the mountain is once again alive with eager travelers, families, and adventure seekers.

A Snowy Playground Without Skiing—For Now!

Although the ski slopes remain off-limits pending infrastructure repairs expected to be completed by summer, visitors can still experience the magic of the Hermon. Exciting attractions await!

  • Scenic Rides – Take a breathtaking journey on the visitor cable car and soak in the stunning panoramic views of snow-capped peaks.
  • Extreme Sledding – For the adrenaline junkies, the high-speed sledding track is ready to deliver heart-pounding thrills.
  • SkyRider VR Simulation – Immerse yourself in a cutting-edge virtual reality experience that will take you on a soaring adventure over the mountain.
  • Classic Snow Fun – Families and children can delight in old-fashioned snow sledding, making cherished memories in Israel’s winter wonderland.

Security and Safety Measures in Place

Ensuring the safety of visitors remains a top priority as Israeli Police, IDF, Magen David Adom (MDA), and the site’s management have worked tirelessly to prepare for the reopening. Chief Superintendent Eran Tabib, head of the Golan Police Station, emphasized their commitment:

"Our role is to ensure that all necessary actions are taken so that the people of Israel arrive here safely, leave safely, and everyone returns home in peace."

With tens of thousands of visitors expected to flood the region, law enforcement urges caution. The Golan Heights is filled with breathtaking open landscapes, but some areas remain designated minefields, which are clearly marked and fenced off. Tabib reminds all travelers: "Avoid any area marked with a triangle—entry is strictly prohibited."From Battlefield to Tourism Revival – A Symbol of Strength

Until now, Mount Hermon’s only occupants were brave IDF soldiers defending Israel’s northern frontier. Accirding to the Israeli daily newspaper, Israel Hayom, even the site’s CEO, Raphael Naveh, was called up for reserve duty, leaving tourism behind to serve the country. But today, he stands at the helm of this reopening with a renewed sense of purpose.

“The excitement this morning is simply immeasurable,” Naveh said. “We've waited far too long for this moment, and now, at last, we welcome back the Israeli public. This is more than just the reopening of a tourist site—it’s the revival of northern Israel’s economy and spirit.”

Despite the usual ski season winding down in early March, Naveh and his team refused to give up on this crucial opportunity. “It was imperative to allow Israelis to return to Mount Hermon,” he emphasized, encouraging visitors to take advantage of the spectacular weather and bring life back to the Galilee and Golan Heights.

Current Snow Conditions – Where to Find the Best Winter Experience

While the lower slopes currently have minimal snow coverage, much of which has been transported down from higher elevations, visitors can still enjoy an authentic snowy adventure. To experience the most pristine natural snowfall, guests should take the cable car to the upper levels, where the landscape remains beautifully covered in white.
