A cache of 44 pure gold coins was recently discovered in the ancient Banias site within the Hermon River Nature Reserve during an excavation by the Antiquities Authority. The excavation at the site is being conducted in preparation for connecting the 'Makam Nabi Khidir' site, which is sacred to the Druze, to the electricity grid.

In what could be the oldest example of a business that was built without thought of sustainability, Archaeologists from one of Israel's leading institutions have uncovered what happened to an ancient factory that was situated in an area that was simply not able to sustain it.

One of the most famous attractions in the Old City of Jerusalem is on the verge of collapse, and engineers are warning that if that should happen, it would be catastrophic.
All who walk from the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City to the Western Wall will pass through or by the carved Roman columns and the famous arches that make up the Cardo. The exciting archaeological discovery was uncovered following the liberation of Jerusalem in the Six Day War. The Cardo is certainly a living testimony to ancient Jerusalem in the Roman and Byzantine periods. However, the ancient find, which is also one of the most important tourist attractions in the city, is in clear and immediate danger of collapsing.

A burial cave thought to be from the period when the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses the Great reigned, the same Pharoah believed to have been the ruler at the time of the Israelite exodus from Egypt, was found near the Palmachin beach just 15 minutes south of Rishon Letzion. Inside the cave, many dozens of intact pottery and bronze vessels were left untouched by humans for over 3,300 years.

As if every find in the ancient capital of the Jewish nation was not extraordinary, a new discovery might just have the honor of being the find of the decade. When archaeology can turn preconceived beliefs on their head and confirm biblical accounts, it deserves that title and this find has done just that. The relics, a collection of ivory plaques from the First Temple era in unique in that nothing like them has ever been seen before, anywhere in the world.
These Ivories from that holy period are the only ones to be discovered in the world with the level of detail and craftsmanship - and certainly the first of its kind in Jerusalem. They were discovered by the excavations of a parking lot funded by the Antiquities Authority and Tel Aviv University in the National Park adjacent to the walls of Jerusalem.
