In a brazen and unprovoked act of aggression, the Hamas terror organization shattered a tense period of relative calm on Sunday evening, launching a volley of 10 rockets from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. This marks the largest rocket attack in several months and the first since the fragile hostage-ceasefire deal was implemented in January.

Iron Dome Springs into Action as Sirens Wail Across Southern Israel

At precisely 9:01 PM, the chilling sound of red alert sirens blared across the Lakhish region, jolting families into action as they raced to bomb shelters. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) swiftly confirmed that approximately ten projectiles had been launched from central Gaza, penetrating Israeli airspace.

In a statement released shortly after the attack, the IDF reported that five of the incoming rockets were successfully intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system, preventing what could have been catastrophic damage.

“Following the sirens that sounded at 21:01-21:02 in the Lakhish area, approximately ten projectiles were identified crossing into Israeli territory from central Gaza,” read the official IDF statement. “Approximately five projectiles were successfully intercepted by the IAF. Falls were identified in several areas. IDF Home Front Command soldiers are dispatched to the scenes and are operating in cooperation with Israeli security forces.”

Injuries Reported Amid Civilian Panic

Tragically, one man in his 30s sustained light injuries from rocket shrapnel in the coastal city of Ashkelon. He was quickly evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center by Magen David Adom emergency responders. Several others were treated at the scene for anxiety and minor injuries, sustained while running for cover during the barrage.

The psychological toll of these terror attacks remains immeasurable, as families were forced to endure yet another night of trauma and fear—victims of Hamas’ relentless war on Israeli civilians.

Rockets Launched from Deir al-Balah: A Calculated Provocation

The attack originated from Deir al-Balah, a neighborhood in central Gaza where the IDF had not recently operated, suggesting a deliberate attempt by Hamas to exploit a perceived gap in military presence. The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ notorious military wing, proudly claimed responsibility for the attack—once again reaffirming the terror group's total disregard for peace and human life.

IDF Issues Stern Warning, Orders Evacuations Ahead of Retaliation

In a swift and calculated response, IDF Arabic Spokesman Colonel Avichay Adraee issued an urgent warning in Arabic to residents of Deir al-Balah, signaling that a decisive Israeli counterstrike was imminent.

“We will attack with great force every area from which rockets are launched,” Adraee wrote. “Terrorist organizations, primarily Hamas, bear full responsibility for the displacement and suffering of civilians. For your safety, you must move immediately south to the known shelters in Al Mawasi.”

The warning served not only as a humanitarian gesture to minimize civilian harm, but also as a direct message to Hamas: Israel will not tolerate the targeting of its citizens.

Netanyahu Orders a Crushing Blow Against Hamas

While en route to the United States aboard the Wings of Zion aircraft, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was briefed on the attack. He immediately contacted Defense Minister Israel Katz, issuing firm instructions to deliver a "powerful blow" to Hamas.

“I instructed the IDF to carry out a powerful blow against Hamas. We will not accept rocket fire at Israel,” Katz later confirmed in a statement.

Within hours, Israeli warplanes carried out precision airstrikes on the launch sites in Gaza, delivering a message loud and clear: Terror will be met with overwhelming force.

IDF Vows Continued Action Until the Threat is Eliminated

The IDF reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the people of Israel, stating:

“The IDF will continue to operate to remove any threat to Israeli civilians.”

As Hamas continues to use the people of Gaza as human shields in its futile war against the Jewish State, Israel remains resolute: Terrorism will not go unanswered, and the safety of Israeli citizens will always be the top priority.
