The Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) Director-General, Major-Gen. (Reserves) Eyal Zamir, has arrived in Washington, D.C., for a series of critical, high-level discussions with key American officials, aimed at fortifying the already robust Israel–US strategic partnership during a time of heightened regional instability.
Maj.-Gen. Zamir's mission underscores the urgency of reinforcing Israel's security and military superiority in the Middle East as the nation faces its most significant wartime challenges in decades. The Director-General met with senior leaders from the Pentagon, the State Department, and the White House, including Brett H. McGurk, Deputy Assistant to President Joe Biden and National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa; Derek H. Chollet, Chief of Staff to the US Secretary of Defense; and Tom Sullivan, Counselor of the US Department of State.
During the 14 months of war, the IMOD made unprecedented purchases from the U.S. totaling more than $10 billion. The procurements included two squadrons of F-35 and F-15 aircraft, various ammunition types, armored vehicles, combat and protection equipment for soldiers, and more.

Securing Israel's Military Superiority
Central to these meetings were discussions on accelerating and expanding immediate and long-term military procurement processes. Maj.-Gen. Zamir advocated for measures to ensure Israel's qualitative military edge (QME) in the region and sustain its operational capabilities amidst an ongoing war effort. He conveyed the gratitude of Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and the entire Israeli defense establishment for the steadfast support of the Biden administration during these tumultuous times.
“Israel stands stronger today because of the unwavering support of the United States,” Zamir emphasized during his meetings, lauding the administration's prompt provision of critical weapons and ammunition.
The package is intended to finance vital procurement for the IDF and strengthen Israel's air defense systems - Iron Dome, David's Sling, and the high-power laser system, which is in advanced development stages.

A Symbol of Strategic Cooperation
As a tangible acknowledgment of the deep strategic partnership between Israel and the US, Maj.-Gen. Zamir presented Brett McGurk with a fragment of an Iranian ballistic missile intercepted by the Arrow defense system—a system co-developed by both nations. The artifact symbolizes not only the technological ingenuity of the partnership but also the shared commitment to confronting mutual threats, particularly from Iran and its proxies.
Unprecedented Defense Investments
Over the past 14 months of war, Israel has executed extraordinary defense procurements from the United States, amounting to over $10 billion. These acquisitions include two squadrons of advanced F-35 and F-15 fighter jets, a wide array of precision-guided munitions, state-of-the-art armored vehicles, and critical protective equipment for soldiers.
This monumental effort reflects the operational demands of Israel’s prolonged conflict and the necessity of maintaining a technological and tactical edge against adversaries, including Iranian-supported terrorist organizations.

Transformative US Aid Package
Maj.-Gen. Zamir also extended heartfelt thanks for the historic $8.7 billion US aid package appropriated by Congress in April, the implementation of which has recently been completed. This aid package is being channeled into essential defense projects, including the enhancement of Israel’s multi-layered air defense systems: the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and an advanced high-power laser system currently in its final stages of development.
“These systems are not only protecting lives but also ensuring Israel's ability to face the future with confidence and resilience,” Zamir stated.
Reinforcing a Deep and Enduring Alliance
The war has only deepened the strategic bond between Israel and the United States, with the latter demonstrating unparalleled commitment to ensuring Israel's security. This partnership stands as a bulwark against Iran's regional ambitions and the growing threat from its terror proxies, including Hezbollah and Hamas.
Accompanying Maj.-Gen. Zamir on this vital diplomatic mission are some of Israel’s most senior defense officials, including Defense Attaché to the US Maj.-Gen. Hidai Zilberman, IMOD Mission Head Aviram Hasson, and IMOD Representative in Washington Omer Haim. Together, the delegation is ensuring that the Israel–US defense relationship remains a cornerstone of Middle East stability.
Strengthening the Future
As the meetings in Washington unfold, Israel’s message is clear: the partnership with the United States is indispensable for safeguarding its people and securing its future. The presence of Maj.-Gen. Zamir in the US capital is not just a diplomatic gesture but a testament to the enduring trust and shared vision between the two nations.
In a region fraught with volatility, Israel and the United States continue to stand shoulder to shoulder, united in their pursuit of peace, security, and strategic stability.
