IDF Intensifies Strikes in Gaza After Hamas Attacks Troops, Violating Ceasefire Agreement

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unleashed a new wave of strikes across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday night after Hamas terrorists opened fire on Israeli soldiers in the southern sector of the enclave, shattering the fragile ceasefire agreement brokered earlier this month.

According to Palestinian sources, Israeli precision strikes hit multiple Hamas positions, including areas surrounding Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, a site long used by the terrorist group as both a command center and human shield. The hospital’s director-general, Muhammad Abu Salmiya, himself previously detained for collaboration with Hamas, confirmed the strikes in statements to local media.

Earlier in the day, the IDF had already carried out targeted operations in southern Gaza, striking terrorist infrastructure that had been used to ambush Israeli troops. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the military response was authorized “after repeated provocations” by Hamas gunmen operating from Rafah and Khan Yunis.

Hamas Fires Again, IDF Responds with Force

In yet another blatant breach of the ceasefire agreement, Hamas launched an anti-tank missile at IDF forces operating near Rafah, prompting a swift and calculated retaliation.

“Israel will not sit idly while terrorists shoot at our soldiers under the illusion of immunity,” said one senior IDF source, confirming that forces “returned fire immediately to neutralize the threat and prevent Hamas from further endangering Israeli troops.”

Following a late-night situational assessment, Defense Minister Israel Katz lifted all remaining security restrictions on Israeli communities near the Gaza border, restrictions that had been in place since Hamas’s October 7 massacre. “Normal life will resume in the south,” Katz declared, “but our vigilance remains absolute.”

In a statement issued from his office, Katz delivered an unmistakable warning:

“Hamas crossed a bright red line by attacking IDF soldiers and violating its commitment to return the remains of the hostages. The response will be powerful, precise, and uncompromising. Hamas will pay with compound interest.”

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir echoed the sentiment, reminding Israelis that while major victories have been achieved, “the war is not over.”

“Many challenges still await us,” Zamir said. “Hamas bears full responsibility for every escalation, every rocket, and every drop of blood spilled since October 7.”

Hamas Denies Responsibility, But Israel Isn’t Buying It

Hamas’s so-called “civil defense” authority reported at least two dead and four wounded in the strikes near southern Gaza City. Predictably, the terrorist organization denied any involvement in the attack on IDF troops, claiming that it remains “committed to the ceasefire”, a statement Israeli officials immediately dismissed as cynical propaganda.

“This is the same playbook Hamas has used for decades,” one Israeli analyst told KAN News. “They fire, then deny, then hide behind hospitals and civilians. Israel will not be manipulated again.”

The Hostage Question: Five Scenarios on the Table

Israeli security officials have confirmed that the government is now weighing five strategic options should Hamas fail to deliver the remaining hostages or their bodies:

  1. Extending Operational Control over Gaza, effectively restoring a permanent Israeli presence in critical zones.

  2. Targeted Escalation, including renewed air campaigns and special forces operations.

  3. Hostage Remains Retrieval Missions by elite IDF and intelligence units.

  4. Intense Diplomatic Pressure through allied states and international forums.

  5. Termination of Existing Agreements and a complete reset of ceasefire conditions.

According to intelligence briefings shared with KAN News, Hamas is believed to know the precise burial locations of a double-digit number of hostages’ remains, but is deliberately withholding them as leverage.

Despite its claims that it “cannot locate all the hostages,” Hamas has been repeatedly caught lying, a pattern Israeli officials describe as part of the terror group’s psychological warfare tactics.

“They know exactly where the bodies are,” one Israeli defense source said bluntly. “They’re trying to barter with grief.”

The Road Ahead: “This War Isn’t Over”

As night fell over Gaza, Israeli fighter jets continued to strike Hamas positions, sending a clear message that Israel’s patience has limits.

Hamas’s attempt to reignite violence while hiding behind ceasefire rhetoric has backfired, and Israel’s leadership has made it clear that the era of restraint is over.

“Every shot fired at an Israeli soldier,” said Defense Minister Katz, “will bring the full weight of Israeli power upon those responsible. The days of Hamas dictating terms from behind human shields are finished.”

For now, the IDF’s campaign continues with renewed momentum, a reminder that while the ceasefire may exist on paper, Israel’s defense is written in steel.
