According to Syrian authorities and numerous independent reports, the Israeli airforce attacked the Damascus area overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the reports, the Syrian air defense systems acted against the attack and intercepted some of the missiles; although it should be mentioned that Israeli missile technology is far superior to the air defense systems the Assad regime possesses, and typically the regime likes to inflate their defense mechanisms for publicity sake. The Syrian Center for Monitoring Human Rights, an opposition organization based in Britain, claimed that there were casualties in the attack.

A Syrian military official informed the country's state media that the attack took place at 01:20 AM, during which the Israeli Air Force attacked targets in the Damascus area with several missiles fired from the direction of the Golan Heights. "The air defense systems intercepted the missiles and shot down some of them," he claimed. "Two soldiers were injured in the attack, and damage was caused." According to the monitoring center, the target of the attack was a site of the Iranian militias in the area of Kfar Susa in Damascus. According to them, as mentioned, there were casualties in the attack but it is not known at this stage how many.

Last week, the state television in Syria reported on an Israeli attack on and around the airport in the city of Aleppo, which caused it to be shut down. The Syrian Ministry of Defense accused Israel of firing several missiles at the international airport in the north of the country, which caused a lot of damage there. According to the state television report, four missiles hit the field. The echoes of explosions were heard in the area and the defense systems were activated.

Israel also attacked Syria two weeks ago, when then the target was entranced to underground tunnels where, according to intelligence estimates, there were means for the production of surface-to-surface missiles. The place has already been attacked in the past according to the reports in Syria. This is what emerged from satellite images and an intelligence report by ImageSat International.

The Israeli attack that took place two weeks happened at a rather unusual time in relation to the attacks attributed to Israel to date, at 06:15 AM. According to reports in Syria two weeks ago, Israel attacked several targets in the Masyaf area,  where the entrances to the tunnels are located, and in the Tartus district.
