Leaked Report Shows Alarming Anti-Israel Bias, Ignores Hamas Terror and Distorts Reality of Gaza War.

In a shocking and deeply disturbing development, the European Union appears to have aligned itself—whether out of ignorance, cowardice, or calculated political malice—with Hamas, the genocidal Islamist terror group that brutally massacred Israelis on October 7, 2023.

A leaked eight-page document dated June 20, reportedly compiled by E.U. foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and first published by EU Observer, accuses Israel of an array of alleged war crimes and human rights violations, parroting Hamas propaganda almost word-for-word. Among the sensational claims: “indiscriminate attacks,” “torture,” “apartheid,” and even “starvation as a method of war.”

Notably, the report completely omits Hamas' deliberate use of civilian shields, its vast subterranean terror network beneath hospitals and schools, and its ongoing war crimes against both Israelis and Gazans.

The report's data is suspiciously sourced from the so-called Gaza Civil Authority, which is operated by Hamas operative Mahmoud Basal—making it nothing more than a disinformation echo chamber for the terror group. Worse still, the European Union made no effort whatsoever to verify this information with the Israeli government or military before issuing this damning indictment.

Threatening Bilateral Ties Over Fabricated Accusations

At stake is the 25-year-old EU-Israel Association Agreement—a cornerstone trade pact that not only promotes economic cooperation but also underscores shared democratic values between the Jewish state and Europe.

The leaked draft concludes that there are “indications” Israel may be in breach of its human rights obligations under the agreement, thereby laying the groundwork for its potential suspension. Dissolving the agreement could cost Israel over $1 billion annually in trade concessions—an outcome that Spain, led by its vehemently anti-Israel Socialist government, is actively lobbying for.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares announced Monday his intention to demand an immediate suspension of the agreement, citing the document’s findings. Spain, under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, has repeatedly accused Israel of genocide, halted all arms sales to the Jewish state, and effectively legitimized Hamas talking points at the highest levels of European diplomacy.

A Smear Campaign Disguised as Diplomacy

Though the leaked EU review is non-binding, it dangerously distorts the narrative. Its claims mirror those of the United Nations and NGOs often criticized for systemic bias against Israel. The timing is also suspect—coming as Israel faces existential threats not only from Hamas in Gaza but from Iranian ballistic missiles, Hezbollah’s aggression in the north, and Iranian proxies in Iraq and Yemen.

While the document makes a single passing mention of Hamas violence, it immediately dismisses it as “outside the scope of the review.” This is not just poor methodology—it is an intentional whitewashing of atrocities.

The review falsely states that “half a million people in Gaza” face starvation due to Israeli actions, without addressing the fact that Hamas has diverted humanitarian aid, hoarded supplies, and booby-trapped aid corridors. As always, the report completely ignores Israel's repeated warnings to civilians, its establishment of humanitarian corridors, and its targeted evacuations from combat zones—measures unheard of from other militaries fighting urban warfare.

Israel Responds: "A Moral Distortion"

In a blistering rebuttal dated June 18 and sent to Euractiv, Israel’s Foreign Ministry condemned the EU's leaked review:

“In the midst of this grim reality—war with Iran, attacks on our civilian population, and a campaign to rescue hostages—the European Union is considering a ‘review’ of its relationship with Israel. This is not a policy adjustment—it is a moral distortion.”

The Israeli response underscores the hypocrisy of Brussels, which claims to champion democracy and human rights, even as it turns a blind eye to Iran’s regional terror machine, Hamas’ mass executions of dissenters, and the use of Gazan civilians as shields for rocket launchers and terror tunnels.

Allies Push Back

Thankfully, not all of Europe has lost its moral compass. Countries like Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany continue to stand with Israel and are likely to block any consensus required to suspend the Association Agreement.

Nonetheless, the review’s existence, its timing, and its language reveal a troubling shift within the European Union—one that risks abandoning democratic principles in favor of political appeasement of violent jihadist movements.

Conclusion

As Iran rains missiles on Israeli cities, and Hamas holds innocent civilians hostage, the European Union has chosen to lecture the victim, not the aggressor. With selective outrage, misleading statistics, and the erasure of Israeli suffering, the EU is enabling Hamas’ disinformation campaign and threatening the very foundations of its moral credibility.
