During the Nablus operation yesterday to arrest the killers of the Dee family, a trained K-9 German Shepherd named 'Django' was shot and killed while protecting Israeli troops with his body and saving lives. After his death, the soldiers of the unit in which he served paid their last respects to their friend who accompanied them in hundreds of operations.
Palestinian media and social media posted images of a mutilated dog they claimed was Django, it was not clear from the IDF announcement if the images were authentic and Django's body was defiled after he was killed. However, the images were real and indicative of the lack of respect some in the Palestinian community have for animals. The mayor of Arab-Hebron last year offered a bounty for citizens to kill dogs, which led to horrific videos of gleeful Palestinians beating helpless dogs to death.
The dog Django was buried in the dog cemetery for the special unit. A senior officer from the unit’s Command added on the operation in which the terrorists who carried out the shooting attack were eliminated and said: "A little after seven in the morning we began the search in the heart of the old city of Nablus, the hunt was completed after the conditions were ripe, both intelligence-wise in terms of indication and operational for execution.

Palestinians boasting that they killed an @IDF dog named “Django” during the fighting in Nablus.
They tore the animal’s body apart.
The caption repeats an Israeli news outlet confirming his death, & makes a joke that the dog is now part of a stew (freekeh). pic.twitter.com/lOSUs1sh9m
The unit and Shin Bet worked on the target itself and reached a decisive situation. At this stage, after we secured the parameters, under an exchange of fire, there were more armed men who arrived. The Egoz unit together with the Border Control forces and the 50th Battalion worked to isolate the area to allow a sterile working area, they also shot back at any armed citizens shooting".
The terrorists who were eliminated are Hamas operatives Hassan Katnani and Ma'ad Masri, and the owner of the apartment who helped them, Ibrahim Hora. The funerals of the terrorists held in Nablus were attended by massive crowds, including armed activists from the Islamic Jihad and the Lions Den terrorist group.
What is happening in Hebron is simply shocking. Dozens of dogs are being brutally abused and mistreated, and why? Because the mayor of Hebron offered 20 shekels for every dog killed. This is a culture of murderous violence towards helpless animals. pic.twitter.com/HkkZxVLqKr

After the assassination of the terrorists, the father to Maia and Rina Dee said: "The world will be able to sleep better knowing these terrorists are no longer alive. I was very happy to hear that no soldier was injured or harmed in the incident, nor was any innocent civilian. This is an operation that only the IDF and Shin Bet can do. We are proud to live in a country where the security forces are so precise and trained, and we are very grateful to the army and the forces for eliminating the terrorists."
He also added that he was interested in talking to the families of the terrorists: "I would like to ask them what their family members wanted to achieve in this murder. What will this thing do to their children, what did they want to achieve with it?"
