Monday saw the security situation in Israel continue to spiral as Palestinian terror attacks against Israelis continued and in an unexpected and alarming turn, an extremist Israeli turned on Israel Defense Forces soldiers.

It began Monday afternoon when a 25-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon after a Palestinian terrorist shot at his vehicle at the Beit Arava intersection on Route 90, in the Megillot regional council located in the northern Dead Sea area. Another car was shot near the intersection, but its passengers were not injured.

IDF forces began a pursuit of the terrorist who set fire to his vehicle, abandoned it, and fled in another vehicle towards the Aqbat Jaber refugee camp near Jericho. The IDF is cordoning off the area and it is anticipated that they will commence a search within the Palestinian-controlled city to capture the terrorist.

According to the initial investigation, the terrorist recognized the Israeli's vehicle approaching and fired a precise shot. The terrorist fled the scene, stopped on the side and set it on fire, and tried to escape using a second car. It is not known if the car came to pick him up or it was placed in the area as a planned getaway car, before the shooting attack.

According to authorities, the terrorist escaped near the St. George Monastery where he was trying to change cars and finally fled the scene on foot towards the Aqat Jabar Wirihu refugee camp. A police force fired at the terrorist, but it is not clear if he was hit. Many IDF forces surround Jericho and set up blockades in the entire area.

Uzi Slok, a volunteer paramedic with Igud Hatzalah, an ambulance rescue organization, and Elon Lubiner, a medic with Hatzalah recalled the events after the shooting attack: "There was a young man who was found lying in his car, mortally wounded - we performed CPR on him at the scene. After that, he was evacuated to the Hadassah Mount Scopus Medical Center."

Hazi Larza, a senior medic at Magen David Adom (MaDA), Israelโ€™s primary emergency services organization said: "I passed very close to the place with my private vehicle when I received a call about a shooting attack. I immediately arrived at the scene and noticed a vehicle standing in the opposite lane with the driver of the vehicle unconscious. I summoned forces and began to give him life-saving medical treatment. The team of our intensive care unit, which quickly arrived on the scene, continued advanced life-saving medical treatment and transferred him to a hospital during CPR when his condition was critical."

Less than five hours after the attack in the north of the Dead Sea, it was reported that another shot was fired at an Israeli vehicle near the Magalim settlement in Samaria from a passing vehicle. Four bullet holes were found in the vehicle, but there were no casualties. IDF forces have begun searching for the shooters. In the meantime, the IDF continues the hunt for the two terrorists who fled towards Jericho. At the same time, the hunt continues for the terrorist who killed two brothers yesterday in an attack in Hawara near Nablus.

Haim Trabalsi was driving in one of the vehicles that were shot in the north of the Dead Sea yesterday afternoon. He said that the shooting happened when they were on their way home from Beit Shan. "I was sitting in the back and stretched out on the back seat. Suddenly I heard gunshots," Trabalsi recalled. "I felt the bullets literally whistling near my body, I felt heat in my neck, I shouted 'shots, shots'."

Bruno Zermati was driving in another vehicle that the terrorists shot at. "A car overtook us, I thought it was gravel, we heard the noise 'tock-tock', I thought it was bouncing gravel. At the same time, I saw a person coming out of the window and shooting at us, then we said 'Shit. Duck'. They could have easily killed us," he said. His relative who was traveling with him, Yoel Zermati, said that after the shooting they pulled over and called the police. "I see that everyone is fine and then I realize that we are in a bad place on the road. I was also afraid that he might come back," he said. "It's an unbelievable miracle."

Meanwhile, in an unusual incident that is cause for alarm occurred near the Israeli community of Shebi Shomron in Samaria: A number of Israeli extremists were rioting in the area and threw stones at Palestinians, as a result, the IDF was called to help restore order. At one point, an Israeli citizen tried to run over an IDF officer, and soldiers responded by shooting at the vehicle which ended up fleeing.

An IDF spokesman said in response: "The IDF condemns any manifestation of violence, certainly against soldiers and the security forces. The IDF will continue to work to maintain security, law, and order in Judea and Samaria and works in cooperation, together with other enforcement agencies, to bring the perpetrators to justice." Defense Minister Yoav Galant condemned the incident: "An attack on IDF soldiers by Jewish rioters is a very wrong and serious action. There will be no tolerance for lawbreakers. It is the IDF that gives life to the State of Israel and its citizens, the commanders and soldiers work around the clock to protect the residents of the State of Israel.
