Palestinian kids celebrating the death of Israeli citizens

Major General (ret.) Tamir Hyman, former head of the IDF’s Intelligence Corps, spoke Tuesday morning on the Israeli 103FM radio station, and referred to the tense security situation, after the severe attacks that took place in the last few days, in which three Israelis were murdered. Himan said the current generation of Palestinian youth are far more violent than their predecessors.

"This circle which can develop into a vicious cycle can be interrupted, but extreme decisions must not be made here and there, each case must be considered individually in relation to the potential risk of the operation in the heart of the area and the potential for escalation," he noted.

He criticized the conduct of some of the officials, but he did not specify who exactly he was referring to: "Whoever said to behave in a decisive way, on both ends, I think this is an irresponsible statement. Each case should be considered on its merits and a proper balance should be maintained, is the goal worthy? Then go and carry it out.

Hyman then referred to some MKs’ demands to declare a full-scale military operation in Judea and Samaria. “I say despite the friction, this activity that we are carrying out in the center of the cities is preferable to call for a large-scale operation in the style of what was previously called 'Protective Wall 2'. The continuation of the focused, intelligence-oriented activity is the one that will thwart the height of the flames over time."

He further noted: "The potential for violence exists throughout the entire territory, we have a fairly broad layer of young people here, we will call them the millennials, who are completely disappointed with the Palestinian leadership, fed up with all the solutions that have been sold to them over the years and want something else. They are more violent, they are more nationalistic, And they want a significant change. The goal of this layer of young people is to carry out a mass mobilization, what we call producing an intifada, a broad uprising."

Hyman concluded his commentary by speaking of the positive news the Aqaba conference has delivered: "What happened in Jordan is a political success at a price that was already paid a week and a half ago. We are receiving Jordanian hospitality, which is very important for reducing tensions on the Temple Mount and connecting Jordan to lowering the flames on the Temple Mount.”
