A popular young, orthodox journalist, who is strict with his Yarmulke-wearing, Yair Cherky, came out of the closet in a social media statement that received positive feedback from politicians and celebrities all across Israel's social spectrum.
Sergeant Asil Sawaed, a 22-year-old Israel-Muslim Border Patrol soldier, was killed by a knife-wielding terrorist in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat. His Bedouin family, who has a decades-long history of proud service to their country, told reporters they are having trouble “digesting the bitter news about a young man who loved his military service very much.”
Late Sunday night, the Israeli security cabinet approved the legalization of nine communities in Judea and Samaria. Some of those communities have been in existence for about 25 years with dozens of families living in them, including second-generation offspring who have grown up in the communities. Despite having been established decades ago, these communities still have no regular connections to electricity or water, bus lines, or post offices. The legalization will help change that.
Israeli security forces operating in Nablus arrested the terrorists suspected of the shooting attack in which Israel Defense Forces Sergeant Ido Baruch was killed. Soldiers of the Duvdevan unit, the Golani patrol, the Shin Bet, and the border patrol participated in the mission, and the terrorists, Kamal Juri and Osama Tawil, were arrested along with three other suspects. There were no casualties among the Israeli forces, however, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent, in the mission, one armed militant was killed and several others were wounded in a firefight with the Israeli task force. The “Lion’s Den” terrorist squad announced that the militant who was killed was named Amir Basmat.
During the Sabbath, the brother of the 6-year-old who died in Friday's Jerusalem terror attack succumbed to his wounds. Asher Menachem Palay, 8, was mortally wounded in an attack in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem. He was taken to Shaari Zedek hospital in Jerusalem where he passed away less than a day later. His little brother Yaakov Yisrael was buried in Jerusalem within hours of his death as is the custom in the capital city. His funeral was held just before the Sabbath began.
