Prime Minister Netanyahu is getting pressure from both sides (Screen grab - i24News)

According to a report by the Hebrew language Israeli daily “Israel Hayom”, members of the Likud and its central forum have reached the number of signatures required to convene the Likud party on the subject of the urgency surrounding the judicial reform. The Dror Forum in  the Likud, along with other activists who initiated the gathering and created the petition papers, got over 850 people to sign and called on the Prime Minister to "approve the reform unilaterally if there is no other way."

A member of the Likud central forum, Yaakov Vovnovoy, one of the leaders of the initiative told "Israel Hayom" that "in the coming days the signatures will be submitted to the chairman of the central forum. From the moment of submission, the entire Likud must convene within a month."

Vovnovoy emphasized that his goal and the goal of signing is not to attack Netanyahu and the ministers involved. "We initiated the demand to convene the entire forum in order to strengthen the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice in promoting the judicial reform against those who are trying to sabotage and derail the critical reform, and there are those from home and abroad. We want this voice to be heard well in the entire party, and also in the entire political system.

“Israel's legal system is sick and paralyzed. The root of this disease is that the jurists have cut themselves off from the people and live in an ivory tower that elects themselves. This has put the legal system and basically the whole country into complete paralysis. This is what the reform came to correct. to restore the rule of law to the judicial system."

These harsh comments came after Netanyahu's announcement about the delay of the reform, resulting in a number of groups beginning to sign Likud members on a demand for a discussion and decision by the party. In the proposal addressed to Prime Minister Netanyahu, it is stated, "The Likud strengthens the hands of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice in their efforts to achieve a broad agreement on judicial reform. If such an agreement is not reached, the central forum calls on the Likud party and all its representatives to give their hand, and determine in a third reading the amendment of the appointment committee Judge without fear." It should be noted that five members of the Knesset attached their signatures to the request: Amit Halevi, Dan Iloz, Tali Gottlieb, Moshe Passal, and Ariel Kallner.
