Itamar Ben Gvir on Election night

One of the most crucial policies that Ben Gvir and his party, “Otzma Yehudit”, want to implement is the death penalty for terrorists. Up until this point in Israeli politics, many have talked about the idea but few were quick to act on it, mostly due to the likely international backlash. An Israeli death penalty does exist, but is inactive and was used only once to execute the Nazi mass murderer, Adolf Eichman.

Nevertheless, Otzma Yehudit has campaigned heavily, boasting about their intentions to activate the death penalty to execute those who have been charged with terrorism. The belief in Otzma Yehudit and Israel's right-wing circles is that executing terrorists would both save the country billions in funds for incarcerated terrorists and significantly lower the number of attacks.

Knesset Member Zvika Fogel from Otzma Yehudit was interviewed on Thursday on the Roni Bar-On and Aryeh Eldad's radio show and spoke of developments in coalition negotiations. Fogel spoke of the intense negotiations between Ben Gvir and Netanyahu, along with the race against time they are facing.

"What I know from what I heard from Itamar is that the same achievements in the field of the fundamental lines have already been agreed upon out of a total of 180 articles that Otzma Yehudit put on the table," said MK Fogel at the beginning of his remarks.

"This is a negotiation, there are quite a few difficulties in it, quite a few disagreements. We will find all the ways to fulfill what we want. There are policies that are sacred to our party and there is other stuff that is part of the coalition’s demands. In either case, there will be some element of compromise on both sides of the table.”

After that, MK Fogel raised the question of whether there were some policies of his party that was drawn as a red line and must be included in the 180 articles that were agreed upon and replied: "Certainly, for example, an immunity law for IDF soldiers, or the death penalty for terrorists, for example, the transformation of agricultural crime into agricultural terrorism. Concepts that really stand with us. The priority is to eventually bring governance to Judea and Samaria."
