Last week, Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed while she was reporting on an Israeli military operation in the West Bank. Israel was immediately blamed for the killing, despite a lack of cooperation from the Palestinian Authority, which refused to share the forensics on the bullet with Israeli investigators. A few days later, Israeli police were filmed attacking mourners at her funeral, although what led up to the violence is also up to debate. Now, several members of the U.S. Congress are circulating a letter to their colleagues for signature demanding an FBI investigation into her killing.
The episode is undoubtedly going to provide momentum for advocates of boycotting, divesting from, and sanctioning Israel, a movement known as BDS.
