Benjamin Netanyahu has officially been given the mandate by President Herzog to form the new government. If all goes smoothly, by the end of this week Netanyahu will become prime minister for the 6th time in his political career that began in the mid-1980s.
Pro-Palestinian activists often reference the pride that Palestinians have in their rich culture, using the argument that the appropriation by Israelis of everything from food to historical narratives offends what they call 'Palestinian Nationalism.' However, due to the absolute fact that 'Palestinian Nationalism' is a new form of nationalism, having only sprouted up in the last five decades, many Arab scholars have attempted to define the criteria necessary for a united national identity based on the foods that are consumed and the cultural traditions practiced by the Palestinians as a whole.
A terrorist ran over 4 innocent kids on the way back from school in Newton, Massachusetts. That is, of course, not a real headline or real news, but change Newton to Jerusalem, Ramat Gan, or Haifa and it very well might be. Israel is in the midst of one of the largest waves of terrorism since the Second Intifada in the early 2000s. Knowing this fact is vital to understanding why Israel took a hard pivot to the extreme in the most recent election, where a nationalist hardliner like Itamar Ben-Gvir rises to power.
The anti-Zionist publication “Mondoweiss” literally exists to spread falsehoods about Israel. Nothing about their reporting is accurate or shows any element of journalism let alone journalistic integrity. For example, a few days ago Mondoweiss published an article titled “Israeli restrictions on foreign travel into occupied West Bank take effect despite criticisms." Forget the fact that much of what they reported in the article is blatantly false, the premise alone is simply wrong.
Even the title is incorrect as it suggests Israel has control of those who enter Palestinian Authority territory, something that has not been the case for decades. There are no checkpoints leading into Judea & Samaria and once in the area, the roads are shared between Israelis and Palestinians.
Antisemitism is far from a new phenomenon, both in the world and specifically in the Americas. It has been around long before America gained its sovereignty from England. Despite the protections afforded to all religions in the Constitution, the hatred of Jews has existed throughout American history.
