A Pentateuch will be given to each student

The Israeli Ministry of Education will soon come up with a comprehensive plan to return Bible studies to public state schools, and as a first step, it will oblige school principals to send their students to visit biblical Jewish heritage sites, according to reports initially published by “Channel 14” News.

As part of the project, which will be called the "Bible Trail", the state elementary schools will be required to tour Jewish heritage sites and places mentioned in the Bible, including the Cave of the Patriarchs in the city of Hebron, the settlement of Beit El, the City of David in Jerusalem, and of course the Western Wall.

In addition, the Ministry of Education will oblige the second-grade students in the state schools to receive the Torah book, or as it is more familiarly known in the English world, the "Feast of the Pentateuch", a regular and soon-to-be mandatory ceremony in the educational institutions. This is out of a desire to bring the students together and enhance their emotional experience and connection to the bible and to the land.

It was also decided by the Ministry of Education to require Bible studies in the curriculum every week starting in the second grade, something that until now was subject to the decision of the school management.

This new plan for the enhancement of biblical studies comes as part of the Ministry of Education’s new work plan for the coming school year called "From strategy to practice, stability, flexibility, and growth". This is a system-wide work plan, which seeks to define the vision of the education system for the coming years and the principles for the organizational culture of the Ministry of Education.

It should be noted that this is only a general plan, and no legislative powers will be used. The purpose is to guide the headquarters of the Ministry of Education in its work in the coming months until the presentation of the detailed work plan to the Minister of Education Yoav Kish.

In accordance with this plan, the needs of the education teams in the schools and kindergartens are at the top of the Ministry of Education's priorities, and the role of the Ministry of Education headquarters is to be a supporting base and to provide professional and resource support, with the aim of enabling the education teams to break forward and produce advanced and relevant education, which will bring every student and a student of personal excellence.
