Caesarea was named the worlds best Archaeological Park

Caesarea, which was the number one site visited in Israel during 2022, continues to establish its position as one of the leading tourist destinations in the world. After being ranked as one of the 10 best tourist destinations by the New York Times, and among the 50 top recommended places to visit by the leading global tourism magazine, “Travel & Leisure”, the leading Italian tourism journalist organization “GIST” on Sunday named Caesarea the world's 'Best Foreign Archaeological And Cultural Tour Site'.

On the winning certificate, it is written in Italian: "The prize for the best archaeological site is awarded to Caesarea (Israel)". The prize was awarded in Florence by the GIST union, the Italian tourism journalists' organization, which has over 300 members from leading Italian media outlets and specifically the Province of Tuscany. Caesarea was chosen for the "excellence of the underwater site and the port, with many studies in the field and the high affinity of the site to Rome. This recognition will give high exposure to the site throughout Italy, and as a quality standard for the Italian tourism industry."

The Edmond de Rothschild Foundation and the Caesarea Development Company invested more than 150 million Shekels in the extensive excavation of the ancient port while maintaining its preservation and restoration for the benefit of the public. The project, which was carried out through the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority and the Antiquities Authority, included the preservation and restoration of the ancient synagogue, the construction of a promenade in the Crusader walls, and the restoration of the aqueduct Roman and the preservation and restoration of the temple vaults, the temple platform and the staircase that led to it.

Baroness Ariane de Rothschild, chairman of the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation said: "Caesarea is a source of inspiration for our call to create a common future together. We have a goal and commitment to improve ourselves today and pave the way for future generations. We must not only take care of our shared history but also respect our responsibilities in the present."

Michael Charsanti, CEO of the Caesarea Development Company also released a statement and said “the recognition we receive time and time again from prestigious international groups such as GIST or the NY TIMES fills us with Israeli pride and tremendous professional satisfaction."
