Ben Gvir's statement was not issued with Police or Shin Bet

A resident of East Jerusalem was arrested on suspicion of planning to assassinate the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir during the month of Ramadan. According to the report, the suspect gathered intelligence on Ben Gvir and his movement and apparently planned to steal a police license plate and injure a person in the Temple Mount area.

The police investigation revealed that the suspect even met with terrorist organizations residing outside Israel, and received payment from them to help him carry out the attack. During his interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had planned to murder Ben Gvir and kidnap his body in order to negotiate and bargain for him, likely in exchange for the release of Palestinian terrorists currently in Israeli prisons.

Following the report, Ben Gvir said in response that he is "thankful to the members of the security forces and the police who protect me and guard my life. I will not be deterred by attempts to harm me and will continue to strive for a right-wing agenda and strong security policy, along with defeating terrorism and returning security and governance to the streets of Israel."

Although this is one of the more elaborate plannings and the only known internationally-funded threat against Itamar Ben Gvir, it is far from the first time the sitting minister has been threatened. The right-wing politician and his family receive threats on a daily basis, and he has one of the largest security details in the current Israeli government, along with PM Netanyahu and the Minister of Defense Yoav Galant.

In one of the more extreme cases reported in regard to threats against Ben Gvir, a Hamas-sympathizing Arab sent a chain of messages promising to kill the ministerโ€™s entire extended family.

One of the messages sent said: "Leaving the house is the price of your life and the life of your family, stay in your house and don't go out. Otherwise, you and your family will be beheaded and fed to the dogs." The threat came with images of bullets and weapons. In another message he received along with a photo of himself with his son, it was written: "This is the last path when you get close to Al-Aqsa. I swear I will make you cry and scream for your family. We will kill you and your family. We will take your life and that of your children, we will put a bullet in the head.โ€
