Defense Minister Gallant has said Iran can make several Nuclear Weapons

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant began his first official visit abroad to Greece and Cyprus last Thursday. Gallant was received with an honor guard at the Ministry of Defense in Athens and met with his counterpart the Greek Minister of Defense, the Chief of Staff of the Greek Army, and other senior officials where he gave a stark warning about Iran.

In his words, Minister Gallant referred to Iran's efforts to obtain nuclear weapons and at the same time being the factor behind terrorist acts in the region and the entire world. The minister also referred to the terrorist cell that was caught on Greek soil and planned to carry out attacks against Israeli targets.

Gallant said in his speech given in Athens that "the intelligence cooperation between the countries received a public expression about a month ago, with the arrest of two Pakistani terrorist operatives who were employed by the Revolutionary Guards in order to attack Israeli targets in Greece. This is not the only attack that was prevented. Iran, under the direct guidance of its leader, promotes terrorist activities around the world and we identified these efforts in Greece, Germany, Cyprus, and other countries.''

"In recent months, the State of Israel has been dealing with terrorist attacks from Lebanon, Syria, Gaza, and Israel. They all have a definite common denominator: Iran. Iran is not only a threat to Israel: it is the financier, trainer, supporter, and leader of terrorism and the largest and most dangerous arms deals in the world. To illustrate, over the past six months, flights from Iran have landed in Syria on a weekly basis, including weapons, intended to continue spreading its destructive activities in the region. We are acting and will continue to act systematically against this threat. We will not allow Iran to establish an Iranian army in Syria and we will not allow the Syrian land to be a springboard for advanced weapons towards Lebanon."

Perhaps the most interesting thing Gallant noted was that the Israeli Defense Ministry is convinced Iran is striving for more than one nuclear weapon. "The Iranian nuclear program is at the most advanced stage it has ever been in. It is not satisfied with one nuclear bomb. To date, it has accumulated material enriched at the level of 20% and 60% which can be enough for five nuclear bombs.

"Iranian enrichment to 90% would be a grave mistake on Iran's part. Its price would be high and it would have consequences that could set the Middle East on fire. Israel will use all the means at its disposal to prevent a nuclear Iran, and this is also expected from the international community,"  the Defense Minister concluded.
