Noa Kirel's remarks about Polish votes for her is sparking a debate

Immediately at the end of the Eurovision final where she finished in third place, the Israel singer Noa Kirel told the website: "To receive 12 points from Poland after almost the entire Kirel family was murdered in the Holocaust,  this is the real victory." A short time later, the singer spoke with Yedioth Ahronoth reporters and said things in a similar spirit. These statements reached some of the media in Poland and the country's social networks and caused quite an outrage at Kirel's linking between Poland and the Holocaust. The lively discourse on the subject also resulted in a comment by the Polish Deputy Foreign Minister, Pawel Jablonski, who tweeted that Kirel would be invited to an official visit to the country.

"The fact that many people in Israel see Poland as an accomplice in committing German crimes, rather than their victim, is often the result of a lack of knowledge and incomplete education," wrote the Polish Deputy Foreign Minister on Twitter. He further added that there are many reasons for this and some of them are the nature of the trips organized from schools in Israel to Poland. "We are starting a long process that will certainly not yield immediate results, but at the same time I am sure that in the long run, it will allow us to build good Polish-Israeli relations, based on the truth and mutual understanding that our two peoples were victims of German crimes," he added. He also said that the better the result, the fewer incorrect and painful statements to millions of people in Poland like Kirel's statement.

The Polish Deputy Foreign Minister even invited the singer to visit the country: "Noa Kirel herself will be invited to Poland mainly to understand why she thinks this way about our country, to explain to her. To see with her own eyes the places where Nazi Germany committed cruel crimes against Poles and Jews in our country."

Even before this, the Polish member of parliament from the “New-Left” party, Anna-Maria Zukowska also commented on her Twitter: "Does this statement reflect the level of education about the Holocaust in Israel? Do young people in Israel think that the Holocaust was caused by Poland, that a young Israeli citizen can achieve a moral victory over it after years Many, or what does that mean?"

Meanwhile, the Polish website “ Do Rzeczy” wrote an article under the title "Scandal at Eurovision", and added that Kirel's words implied that Poland was responsible for the Holocaust. The Polish website “Natemat” also defined the singer's statement about Poland as scandalous.
