Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan

Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, and the coordinator of the government's operations in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, Colonel Rasan Aliyan, met last night in New York with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and presented him with the distortions in the UN data regarding the number of Palestinian casualties as a result of IDF operations. The meeting was held against the background of the expected publication in the coming month of the UN report dealing with the harming of children in conflict zones and with the aim of convincing the Secretary-General not to include Israel in the "blacklist" of countries and organizations that harm children.

At the meeting, the Secretary-General was presented with current data on the injuries to Palestinian minors as a result of the terrorist organizations' missiles in the Gaza Strip, as well as the distortion in the UN reports, which do not include the causes of death of Palestinian minors during acts of terrorism and thus inflate the numbers and present a false picture. For example, last August the UN Human Rights Council presented harsh data according to which 17 Palestinian children were killed during the previous IDF operation in 2021. However, about half of them were killed by failed rockets of the Islamic Jihad.

The Secretary-General was also given examples of the incitement to terrorism that is rampant in the Palestinian Authority, both on social networks and in schools and kindergartens, and causes a high level of involvement of children and youth in terrorist acts. In addition, the UN Secretary-General was presented with many civil projects that Israel initiates with the aim of improving the living conditions of the Palestinian public and some of which are stuck in place due to the reluctance of the Palestinians, who are not interested in cooperation with Israel due to foreign political considerations.

Ambassador Erdan said this morning after the meeting: "We have been working for a long time to prevent the inclusion of Israel in the "blacklist" of countries that harm children and the meeting together with the coordinator of government operations in the territories was important and significant. We presented the Secretary General with clear data proving that most of the Palestinian minors killed in the past year were involved in acts of violence and terrorism, and this information was omitted from the UN data, along with the fact that terrorist organizations use Palestinian children as human shields and fire missiles and rockets from densely populated areas.

Erdan also added: "Whoever is responsible for the wild incitement and the recruitment of minors for murder and terrorism, is the one who should be included in the blacklist, and not the IDF, which is the moral army in the world."
