Video capture of a missile striking a target in Damascus

Late Tuesday night, reports from a number of Arab media networks claimed that Israel attacked several targets in Syria.

"A soldier was seriously injured and material damage was caused as a result of an Israeli missile attack on points in the countryside of Damascus," the official Syrian news agency SANA reported. It was also reported that the Syrian air defense system was activated against the Air Force and that "our defense shot down a number of enemy missiles", but it is estimated that those systems, based mainly on air-to-surface missiles, did not really succeed in hitting the missiles and bombs that were launched.

According to the reports, the attack was carried out from the direction of the Golan Heights and caused extensive damage to several targets that were attacked, but it is not yet clear what those targets were and whether they were aimed at targets of Iranian militias or Hezbollah positions, which has recently been making a great effort to pose threats to Israel from Syria. Opposition sources in Syria reported that the attack was aimed at the Damascus airport and at weapons depots of pro-Iranian militias south of Damascus.

The area is also home to the headquarters of the 1st Syrian Division, as well as the army and training camps of the Assad army and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. As a result of the shelling, a flash fire broke out on the spot. Also, another attack was reported in the area of Damascus International Airport, east of the city.

A Syrian military official said in a statement to SANA that "at approximately 1:55 AM, the Israeli enemy carried out air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting several points southwest of Damascus, and our air defense vehicles intercepted the aggression's missiles and shot down some of them." The source also stated that the attack resulted in "severe injury to a soldier and causing material losses".

The previous attack in Syria that was attributed to Israel was about two weeks ago and it was aimed, among other things, at an airport that operated to help the Iranians transfer weapons to Syria and from there to Lebanon. Even a month ago, a widespread attack was reported in the Aleppo area, on the sites of the Iranian unit 18340, which was used to produce precision weapons. According to Israel's military definition, these strikes are crucial in the war against Iran's establishment near Israel.
