Lawmakers are angry over Hezbollah operating in the European Capital

Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib was asked by a Jewish member of parliament Michael Freilich about the fact that Hezbollah's political arm operates freely in Belgium, and this after the United States imposed sanctions on Hezbollah's political arm. Freilich said: "Lahbib chooses corrupt regimes like Iran and Hezbollah at the expense of the free West."

Freilich noted that Hezbollah is "an extension of the Iranian regime, the country supports the Shiite terrorist organization both with knowledge and with weapons. In doing so, Hezbollah destabilizes the region and carries out attacks around the world."

He also noted: "The flow of money to Hezbollah has long been a concern of the United States. The Belgian-Lebanese businessman Nazem Ahmad is a key figure in the organization's financial transactions, so he was put on a sanctions list by the US Treasury. Britain also decided to freeze all assets of Ahmad."

Freilich added: "Despite the American sanctions, these people can still transfer money through our country to Hezbollah. As long as they state in the transfer that 'the money can only be used for political purposes', it is clear that such a thing cannot be controlled and that the organization's leader, Nasrallah, is probably laughing about it."

As a result of the latest US sanctions, Freilich asked if Belgium still intends to ban the political arm of Hezbollah, as the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and other countries have already done. He also submitted a request for a parliamentary debate on this matter. In response to Freilich, Minister Lahbib stated that "it is not appropriate to take new measures at the national level at the moment." She stated that "Taking new measures at the national level is not considered at this stage. Hezbollah's threat against Belgium has no development that would justify a change in our national position."

Freilich responded: " Hezbollah destabilizing Lebanon, threatening Israel with 100,000 missiles, and sponsoring global terrorism, all seem of minor importance to Hadja. The fact that our country will become a financial center for Hezbollah is something that the minister admits, unbelievable."

The Jewish member of parliament further noted that this must be prevented: "More and more extremist organizations like Hezbollah will move to our country to escape persecution from our neighboring countries, this should be an effort by the government and it is the responsibility of Minister Lahbib to fulfill her role here."
