Normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia seems unlikely right now

The Biden administration is very determined to bring about a peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia in the coming year. The dispute in the axis with the US and in the internal political axis is the subject of the possible compensation for the Palestinians if the normalization agreement does come into effect.

According to multiple Israeli reports, an anonymous official in the Biden administration revealed the different proposals that came up in the attempt to achieve normalization is Israel's agreement to recognize a Palestinian state and at the same time to transfer parts of Area C that are under Israeli security and civilian control to Area B where the governing powers are divided between the Palestinian Authority and the State of Israel.

The proposal will probably be rejected because these two transformations will in practice lead to the dissolution of the government by the right-wing partners in the current Netanyahu coalition.

MK Avihai Bovaron of the Likud responded to the publication "It sounds completely absurd that anyone in Israel would agree to give up another centimeter of area C. I don't believe it. You have to understand, on the mountainous terrain around Nablus, there is between 10% and 15% Israeli land. The Palestinian Authority is suffocating us because it is building on the edge of Area B next to the Israeli settlements and roads with the aim of suffocating the Israelis and delivering them a choke ring. This is political construction and not real construction for residential purposes.โ€

In recent months, an interesting geopolitical race has been taking place. On the one hand, Iran's rapprochement with its neighbor Saudi Arabia and the changes that will take place between the two, such as trade and defense agreements, and on the other hand, a race in the White House to leave a significant mark in the field of President Biden's foreign policy, thereby driving a significant stake towards the bigger race, the 2024 Presidential elections.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration recognizes and is attempting to change the loosening of its grip throughout the Middle East, both in the warming of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, in the repeated attacks on its bases in Syria by militias funded by various parties, and in Iran's 'reluctance' to submit to the Western sanctions imposed on it, after the unilateral departure from the nuclear agreement made by former President Trump in 2018.
