The Iranian Ministry of Defense announced late Saturday night that an explosion at the military site in the city of Isfahan was a foiled drone attack. According to the announcement, the army shot down three unmanned aerial vehicles. The official statement refrained from accusing an organization or nation of the attack, meanwhile, Telegram accounts affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards blamed Israel, and warned that "The foiled operation proved that Iran will take revenge for this, wait for the drones to hit Zionist oil tankers."

In addition, The “New York Times" reported that the attempted attack was carried out by Israeli-made 'Tabad' drones of the quadcopter model, highly efficient drones with four propellers. In documents published on various Social media platforms, eyewitnesses testified to a loud explosion over the military production plant, and that they noticed a drone hovering in the area. State-controlled television in the country said that in the meantime the authorities are investigating what and who is behind the attempted attack, and what the extent of the damage is.

The state news agency IRNA said that "one of the drones was hit by the air defense systems and the other two were caught in defensive traps and exploded, fortunately, this unsuccessful attack did not cause loss of life and caused minor damage to the roof of the workshop.” The drone warfare between Israel and Iran is nothing new. Just this past November, a drone carrying a bomb hit an Israeli oil tanker.

The Saudi "Al-Hadath" channel reported back in November that the attack on the tanker was carried out using an Iranian UAV of the "Shahid-136" type. As before, in July 2020, the British Ministry of Defense reported that an Israeli-owned ship was attacked in the Gulf of Oman. The ministry did not provide additional details, except that the incident took place near an Omani island, 300 km from the capital Muscat. The ship itself was a Japanese-owned ship, which is managed by the British Zodiac company owned by Eyal Ofer.

News of a drone attack on Iranian soil comes after Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declared his plans against Iranian aggression and a UN report concluding that Iran has enough Uranium to create a nuclear weapon. According to Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, “They have 70 kg of 60% enriched uranium. The amount is there. It still doesn't mean they have nuclear weapons."
