Israeli police arrest a Bedouin man in the Northern Negev Desert

Many on the right in Israel claim that Palestinian Arabs hold little regard for life, their own or those of others. The surge in murders within Arabic villages within Israel in recent weeks is not doing much to dispel that notion. In 2022, the total number of murders in Arab-Israeli towns is already at 47.

Last week, two people were killed within hours, Ali Hassarma in Bana and Sam Kablan in Beit Jann. A 36-year-old man was also shot near the Puridis junction and moderately injured. The background to the shooting seemed to be a simple road rage incident. MDA staff evacuated him to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera.

In a video of a murder in the Druze village of Beit Jann, the perpetrator was seen getting out of a vehicle, surprising the victim and another person who was sitting with him in a vehicle, firing a few shots, and then escaping with only one passerby trying to stop him. Police have begun an investigation into the incident and are investigating its circumstances.

The murdered man, Bassam Kablan, is the brother of former Beit Jann council chairman Bian Kablan. The man sitting next to him, who was an employee of Kablan who happened to be with him in the vehicle, was seriously injured.

This is the second murder in this family in six years with Hussein Kablan, the brother of Bassam and Bian, being killed near a gas station at the entrance to the northern town of Rama near Karmiel.

Ali Hassarma, 28, who was also shot dead, is the 16th victim of a long-running conflict that is taking place within the settlement of Bana. The full details of are not exactly clear due to many inner-family secrets and conflicts. Hasarma's murder apparently led his relatives to try to take revenge on those who they claim are responsible for Hasarma's murder.

According to eyewitnesses, Hasarma was shot in his vehicle while simply feeding his little daughter. A few minutes after Hasarma's murder, another man was evacuated to the Galilee Medical Center in a critical and unstable condition after being shot in the upper body. Residents of the village shared: "What is happening here is a street war. There is no control, the police are unable to enter the village."

Many Arab-Israeli villages refuse to cooperate with police, even officers of Arabic origin and choose to rely on their own brand of Justice. This has led to an outcry by residents of these villages against their politicians who choose to spend their time blasting Israel or questioning the legitimacy of the Israeli nation instead of working to make the streets of their towns safe.

The non-western culture in Arabic communities throughout Israel have many amazing qualities, but the ongoing ‘family honor’ based murders are weighing heavy on the true development of many villages.
