Palestinian media reported on Monday morning that intensive activity by the Israel Defense Forces to arrest wanted terrorists in several neighborhoods in the city of Jenin took place. According to the reports, during the operational activity, terrorists opened fire on the IDF troops who returned fire and hit recorded several hits, killing an Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade leader; there were no casualties reported among the Israeli forces. The arrests made in Jenin come less than a day after terrorists fired at the village of Gan Nir in the Gilboa and struck one of the houses. It should be noted that Gan Nir is not over the ‘green line’ and is well within Israel’s pre-1967 borders.

In a message sent to the residents of the Israeli village on Sunday, it was written: "Starting in the morning and after receiving a report from residents about hearing gunshots, the Police and the local emergency squad scanned to make sure that the source of the shooting was not in Gan Nir. After scans and confirmation with the IDF security forces, the shooting was apparently carried out from across the seamline. In the afternoon, a family that returned to their home discovered bullets that shattered a windshield and penetrated the house."

Prior to the message sent to the residents, an IDF spokesperson said: "Earlier today, a report was received of hearing gunfire in the Gan Nir area. After scans, damage was detected in a house in the village and a projectile was located, there were no casualties. IDF forces are searching the area for suspects."

Prior to the incident in Gan Nir, terrorists fired at the Israeli settlement of Mevo Dotan in northern Samaria, hitting a Palestinian vehicle parked at the entrance to the settlement. In both attacks, the shooting was carried out remotely using 5.56 and 7.62 mm projectiles. The IDF is investigating and has not confirmed whether it is the same terrorist cell from shooting at Gan Nir. Militants in Jenin have also fired up on several occasions toward the Israeli community of Maale Gilboa, also within Israel proper.

In addition to the Jenin arrests, another proactive activity took place after IDF soldiers of Unit 636 identified a terrorist who placed a bomb on the Alon Highway ( AKA Route 458), near the village of El Mu'air. The IDF spokesman said that the troops fired at the suspect and a hit was detected. Later combat engineers worked to dismantle the explosives planted on the highway.

The IDF and the Israeli Ministry of Defence have recognized a significant increase in attempts to harm Jewish residents and have issued several statements in recent weeks about the situation. However, cross-border shooting attacks seem to be a new deterioration in the security situation that is rapidly becoming the new norm.
