On Monday and Tuesday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) destroyed the residence of the assailant responsible for the Huwara shooting incident in February, leading to the tragic deaths of the Yaniv brothers. This operation occured in the Askar refugee camp, close to Nablus. During the operation, the IDF encountered resistance in the form of burning tires, explosives, and gunshots, to which they reacted with appropriate crowd-control measures.
Roughly a week post the close-range assassination of the Yaniv siblings, a combined force โ spearheaded by Shin Bet and comprising IDF commandos from the Judea and Samaria Division, the Harob Patrol, along with the special forces of the Border Patrol โ neutralized the terrorist, Abdel Fatah Harusha. Harusha, a Hamas affiliate from Nablus, was identified as the main perpetrator of the Yaniv brothers' killing in Huwara. Given the intelligence indicating his potential involvement in planning another assault, the decision was taken to confront him during daylight hours. This encounter escalated into a fierce gun battle. The fallout led to the elimination of Harusha and five of his accomplices, with 23 others sustaining injuries.

Hillel Yaniv, aged 22, was a dedicated student at the Yeshiva in Kiryat Shmona. Just prior to the unfortunate incident, he had concluded his military tenure in the Navy and had rejoined his Yeshiva for further studies. His younger sibling, 20-year-old Yigal, was enrolled at the Yeshiva in Givat Olga. He too had shown his commitment to serving his nation, as he was on the cusp of starting his official enlistment process for active combat roles in the IDF. The loss of these two young souls emphasizes the perpetual challenges and volatility of the region.
