In what is commonly referred to as the Jewish Terrorism Division of the Shin Bet, a specialized initiative has been established with the purpose of enlisting council leaders and influential rabbis to deter young settlers from engaging in violent acts against Palestinians. This strategic move is detailed in a report by the Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

In recent months, this division has actively engaged in discussions with influential figures within the Judea and Samaria settlements. The primary objective has been to establish agreements aimed at curbing the involvement of Jewish youth in violent activities within the region. Notably, there have been two recent instances in which the Shin Bet's counter-terrorism division, in collaboration with prominent rabbis, facilitated arrangements that led to the reduction of administrative detention periods for certain individuals. In lieu of extended detentions, rehabilitative alternatives were explored and implemented.

A reliable source familiar with the intricacies of this approach shared, "The Shin Bet will continue to utilize administrative detentions when deemed necessary to address individuals with intentions to carry out terrorist acts. This tool serves as a significant deterrent, preventing, in some instances, these activists from becoming involved in acts of violence that could result in life sentences. As long as influential figures, including rabbis and educators, step forward to support these young individuals, diverting them from violent paths, the Shin Bet will persist in engaging in dialogue with them, thereby seeking alternative solutions to administrative arrests."

It is pertinent to note that this development unfolds amid ongoing debates among Knesset lawmakers regarding the implementation of administrative detentions in the broader fight against escalating crime within Arab-Israeli communities. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a recent Knesset session, conveyed, "I extend my empathy to the affected residents of Kfar Kana. The prevalence of crime within Arab society is a grave concern for the nation. We have previously confronted another menace, criminal organizations, within Jewish society. Through systematic efforts, we successfully mitigated their impact over the years."

He further emphasized, "Our conviction remains steadfast that all citizens of Israel, irrespective of their ethnicityโ€”be they Jewish or Arabโ€”deserve to live securely, free from the shadow of terror that unfortunately looms over many of our Arab citizens today. The utilization of administrative detentions is imperative to curbing these acts of violence. I am confident that by joining our collective strengths, we will triumph over this phenomenon and minimize its scope, paralleling the achievements within Jewish society. I appeal to the heads of various authorities, urging them to unite with the government in this collaborative endeavor against criminal organizations."
