Hezbollah fighters fire Anti-Tank missile (Undated: Telegram)

Hezbollah's actions at the Lebanon-Israel border have escalated tensions significantly. Hassan Nasrallah, the Iranian-backed terror group's leader boasted overnight about a rmissile attack yesterday on the Biranit military post, which resulted in substantial damage but thankfully no casualties. In a rapid response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) thwarted an anti-tank squad positioned along the border fence aiming to target Israelis, utilizing aircraft to neutralize the threat.

Furthermore, this morning, IDF warplanes launched strikes against Hezbollah’s military and terror infrastructure. The situation intensified with Hezbollah firing an anti-tank missile at a house in the Israeli city of Metula; however, no Israeli casualties were reported. The IDF retaliated with artillery fire directed at the mortar's origin. In addition, the army reported thattheir forces struck three Hezbollah anti-tank missile squads in southern Lebanon, and fighter jets hit sites belonging to the terror group.

The Biranit base, critical as the 91st Division's headquarters and housing barracks, has remained a focal point in these skirmishes. Despite these confrontations, Hezbollah has not engaged in full-scale war. The IDF has been proactive in defending the border, with several Hezbollah fighters neutralized in these engagements. Inside Israel, the conflict's impact is deeply felt, with over 100,000 citizens displaced due to daily shelling, and recently, civilian lives were tragically lost when an anti-tank missile hit an electrical van.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed Israel’s preparedness to escalate measures against Hezbollah if necessary. Similarly, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has issued stern warnings of severe consequences for Lebanon, drawing parallels with Gaza.

Hezbollah and Iran have issued warnings against an IDF ground assault in Gaza, threatening military retaliation. Yet, despite these assertions, the IDF continues its operations, and a significant escalation has not materialized. Speculation suggests Hezbollah's restraint could be linked to the strategic placement of U.S. forces in the area, including two aircraft carrier strike groups. The possibility of the Israel-Hamas conflict widening into a larger regional crisis is a source of ongoing concern.

The Hezbollah-controlled Lebanese media outlet al-Mayadeen reported that the attack on Biranit involved the use of Burkan short-range rockets, capable of carrying up to 500kg in explosive payload. asrallah had previously indicated this month the initial deployment of this weaponry. The IDF has not confirmed if this was in fact the ordiance used, however video and images of the explosion would lend some credit to the usage of a larger capacity warhead given the damage.
