A turbulent day unfolded in Israel as two Islamist motivated terrorist incidents jolted the nation's security apparatus. In the heart of Jerusalem's Old City, a Border Police officer sustained moderate injuries in a stabbing attack. This was swiftly followed by an attempted vehicular ramming in Samaria, underscoring the ongoing threats faced by Israeli security forces.

Jerusalem Stabbing Incident:

In a shocking turn of events, a Turkish national on a tourist visa, Hasan Skalanen, unleashed a brutal assault on a Border Police officer in Jerusalem's Old City. The officer, in his 30s, was stabbed in his upper body on Sultan Suleiman Street near Herod's Gate. The scene quickly became chaotic, as police heavily patrolled the area in response.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, providing immediate medical attention to the injured officer, who was conscious upon their arrival. He was subsequently evacuated to Sha'are Zedek Medical Center, where he is receiving treatment and is listed in moderate condition. The attacker was neutralized by security forces, effectively ending the assault.

Judea & Samaria Vehicular Ramming Incident:

In a separate incident around the same time, a white Volkswagen van with Palestinian plates attempted to ram into Border Police officers inspecting an area in Samaria. The officers responded with gunfire, but the suspect managed to flee on foot into a nearby forest, sparking a manhunt. The incident left a female Border Police officer lightly wounded, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Heightened Security Measures:

These attacks prompted an immediate response from law enforcement. In Jerusalem, additional police forces were dispatched, including Jerusalem District Police chief Doron Turgeman, and entrances to the Temple Mount compound were blocked off. In Judea & Samaria, security forces are actively searching for the fleeing suspect, underscoring the heightened state of alert in the region.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the persistent threats facing Israel's security forces, but also of their resilience and rapid response to maintain order and protect their citizens. The nation's security apparatus remains vigilant, ready to respond to any threats that may arise.
