Adham Jabarin, al leader of Islamic Jihad in Jenin was killed in the clashes

Israel Defense Forces troops from the “Haruv” patrol and the “Magllan” unit killed two terrorists in the Jenin refugee camp during an exchange of fire with armed Jihadists during an operation to arrest wanted people from the Islamic Jihad. An IDF soldier was moderately wounded by an explosive device that was thrown at the forces.

In the rare IDF operation which was done out in the open and not covertly, two terrorist operatives, both the sons of Khaled Abu Zina, a senior member of the Islamic Jihad in Jenin, were arrested. The forces captured many stolen and homemade weapons during the operation.

According to the Palestinian reports, the IDF entered the Jenin 'refugee camp' with a large military force, which included dozens of military vehicles, in one of its most significant operations in the area in recent months. One of the two dead Jihadists who was a leader of the armed unit of the terrorist organization, Adham Jabarin, was also on the wanted list.

Abu Zina, 63, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp, is a released prisoner and is considered one of the leading figures of the Islamic Jihad movement. In 2018, an administrative order was issued against him for a period of three months, less than a year after he was released from Israeli prison after serving two and a half years. At first, the Palestinians claimed that it was he who was arrested, but he denied it himself and said that the arrested were two of his sons.

Jabarin, who was killed during the exchange of fire between the IDF forces and the militants, is one of the leaders of the Al-Quds Brigades, the military arm of the Islamic Jihad, and belongs to the Jenin Brigade. According to the Palestinian reports, he took part in the exchange of fire with the IDF, and was shot dead when he tried to escape in his car.

The Palestinians also claimed that Javad Bawakana, a 57-year-old teacher, was killed by IDF fire while he was at his home. It is unknown if the teacher was involved or not in the shooting, however, Jabarin was shot near the teacher’s home so in the scenario he wasn’t, it would be considered a human error and investigated by the IDF.

In total, nine armed Palestinians have been killed in clashes with the IDF in Jenin since the beginning of the year. The city announced a comprehensive strike on Wednesday following the events that took place overnight.
