At least six Palestinian terrorists were killed during an exchange of fire with a Special Force unit of the Israel Defense Forces early Thursday morning. What began as a routine arrest operation in the Jenin refugee camp, escalated into an exchange of hundreds of bullets between the IDF and an armed militant force in Jenin.

In addition to the terrorists who were killed, Seven other armed men were injured, three of whom are in serious condition. The IDF broke their normal protocols where they comment on a mission after the fact and were reporting on the activity in real-time. When it was over, they quickly issued a statement that claimed: "a significant terror attack in the making was foiled."

One indication that this operation was an emergency meant to thwart an imminent attack is the disclosure of the unit tasked with the operation and the strategy employed by them. Elite Troops from 'Magellan' unit, the secretive 'Harob' patrol participated in the operation with support from the Border Patrol. An IDF method called a "pressure cooker" was carried out on the target of the operation, during which a missile was also fired at the targeted house. The fact that such an extensive operation in the refugee camp portion of Jenin took place in broad daylight indicates its urgency and importance.

Palestinian reports announced that one of the dead was Salahat Ezz Ad-Din, a resident of the refugee camp, who is considered one of the known militants in the Jenin Brigade. Another killed terrorist is Saib Issam Mahmoud Zariki. In addition, the Palestinians reported, "a severe arrest operation that includes shooting in all directions and other wounded".

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that an elderly woman was also killed during the exchange of fire. The Palestinian health minister said that "the situation in the Jenin camp is dire, the occupation prevents aid to the wounded." They further stated: "The Red Crescent informed us that there are many wounded people who are difficult to rescue and evacuate."  One tactic of Palestinian militants that has been employed for decades is the use of ambulances to provide cover for jihadists, and evacuate them if needed despite their not being injured. Israel also has an obligation to prevent loss of life under the Geneva convention and if an area is an active war zone, it will prevent civilians from entering the area.

In the documentation that was distributed on social media, the undercover soldiers who participated in the activity were seen arriving at the refugee camp in a milk truck. It is also claimed that during the heavy shooting, an ambulance of the Red Crescent was also damaged. The director of the government hospital in Jenin said: "The Israeli occupation forces are around the hospital, firing bullets and tear gas." The Palestinian Foreign Ministry appealed to the Americans and the international community: "If you don't act now in the face of the brutal killing scenes in the Jenin camp, when will you?"

The Thursday morning operation comes exactly one week after an IDF activity in the Jenin refugee camp in which two terrorists were killed during an exchange of fire with an IDF force from the Haruv patrol and the Magellan unit. The exchange of fire then developed during an operation to arrest wanted persons. An IDF soldier was slightly injured by an explosive device that was thrown at the troops.
