Early Sunday morning in Cairo, the Arab League members gathered for what they called “The Jerusalem Conference”. Many different Arab leaders were present, including the Palestinian Authority’s Chairman, Abu Mazen. While most of his speech was translated into English, a few minutes of Abu Mazen’s words were seemingly not delivered to the translator; those paragraphs included the Palestinian leader's claims of ownership not only of all of Jerusalem but of the Western Wall specifically.  Abu Mazen completely ignored the historic Jewish presence in the Old City of Jerusalem and refused to mention the presence of the two temples under Al-Aqsa even once.

Abbas's comments that went untranslated for the international media said: "Brothers and sisters, we take the opportunity to convene the Jerusalem Conference today, to present a documented and true narrative of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, including the Al-Burak Wall [the Arabic name for the Western Wall], a narrative that refutes the false narrative on which the occupation is based. The Al-Burak Wall is part of  Al- Aqsa is a true Islamic endowment, and this right of ours was established by the great Quran, which gave the place its name: 'Glory to him who carried his duty at night from the Holy Mosque to Al-Aqsa Mosque, whose surroundings we blessed.”

"We have international legitimacy represented by the League of Nations in 1930, following the Al-Burak Revolution [the 1929 Arab revolt and massacre of Jews that the Palestine Liberation Organization renamed after the Western Wall decades later]. It was even recognized by the Jewish religious leaders at the time, who testified to the exclusive ownership of the Muslims over the Holy Mosque, including the Al-Burak Wall.”

"Because of that revolution, the Al-Burak revolution, the Council of the League of Nations sent a special committee consisting of three Western European countries - Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands - to investigate the background and causes of the outbreak of the revolution, and to determine the rights to the Al-Burak wall.”

"In the report, the committee stated that the Jewish side did not claim, at any stage of its investigation, that it had any ownership right either in the Al-Burak Wall or in the nearby Moghrabim neighborhood [the Jewish-Morrocan neighborhood]. In light of the extreme importance of this League of Nations decision, we place it before you as a historical and legal document, because the conflict was over the Burak Wall and is now over the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which the Zionists demand to divide between us and them.”

Abu Mazen finished his speech by saying: "We will defend our rights, whatever the circumstances may be, and we will oppose with all our will and strength the plans of the most racist and extreme Israeli government, aimed at Al-Aqsa Mosque and all our holy places."
