Early Sunday morning, a vehicle with four Palestinian terrorists drove towards an Israel Defense Forces military post at the Git junction in Northern Samaria, just West of Nablus, with the intention of killing Israeli soldiers. The soldiers seemed well prepared for the attack.

Three of the militants, armed with M-16 rifles, got out of the vehicle and fired at an IDF force that had at the time been positioned in such a way that enabled them to be ready for this exact scenario, a strategy that came about after intelligence reports they had received earlier warned of a pending assault on the junction.

The IDF soldiers immediately returned fire at the armed terrorists, killing two of them and another gunman who was in the vehicle. The third gunman who got out of the vehicle fled the scene and later turned himself in, after realizing that his life depended on it.

The combat soldiers, from the Golani brigade, confiscated three M-16 rifles, a pistol, and ammunition that were in the possession of the terrorists. There were no casualties among the IDF security forces.

The Israeli security establishment, along with IDF intelligence, recently identified a pattern of gunmen shooting near the Git junction and therefore sent troops there to carry out proactive operations in the area, aimed at neutralizing the shooting operations in real-time.

The Palestinians reported three dead and an arrest, but their identities have not yet been revealed although social media posts from accounts affiliated with some Palestinian terror groups claimed the three dead were brothers Jihad Al-Shami and Uday Al-Shami, along with Muhammad Al-Dabeek. About two weeks ago, a drive-by shooting took place Passing towards the same position at Jit Junction. The IDF spokesman said after the incident that injuries were detected at the position and backpacks were found in the area.

During the previous Palestinian attack on the Jit junction a few weeks back from a passing vehicle, an IDF spokesperson stated that intelligence was being gathered to determine the identity of the shooters. There were no casualties among IDF soldiers, and the forces were conducting searches for suspects in the shooting.

The previous incident happened at around 11:00 PM, and about half an hour later, young Palestinians from nearby villages threw Molotov cocktails at an IDF concrete stand in the area of the village of Halhol near Hebron. The IDF troops responded by firing into the air, but the suspects fled the scene. The recent increase in attacks against both Israeli soldiers and civilians comes just ahead of Ramadan which is known to be a turbulent time, and the IDF has been cracking down on lone-wolf operations and small terrorist squad activities in Judea and Samaria.
