In a sign of the times when Israel's longtime allies have been playing politics with weapons and ammunition sales, Israel is becoming increasingly self-reliant for resupplies. Last week, Elbit Systems clinched a monumental order worth $340 million for the supply of various armaments to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that typically woujld have been filled by the United States, United Kingdom or Germany. This deal follows closely on the heels of a massive order from the Ministry of Defense, valued at over NIS 800 million, for the provision of precision mortar bombs of the "Iron Sting" model. The combined effect of these orders underscores Israel's strategic emphasis on maintaining a robust and technologically advanced military.
