Israel is working to develop an AI driven armored carrier called "Carmel" (Source: IAI)

Recently, many pro-Palestinian activists on the global front have been promoting the idea of Artificial Intelligence’s connection to Israeli “Apartheid.” By claiming to both debunk and shed light on Israel’s proven success with many internationally-recognized technological advancements, including with AI, publications like “+972” and “Mondoweiss” try to reveal a false truth that vilifies this progress. This very clear attempt to spread fake news for the sake of crooked political and financial gain should have a very clear response: “Israel’s technological and scientific superiority due to years of dedication and hard-earned progress cannot be used against it, and certainly not undermined.”

“The ubiquity of AI warfare does not mean this technology should be deployed without safeguards and limitations. Algorithms may indeed make many aspects of warfare more efficient, from guiding missiles to sifting through data to monitoring border crossings. Yet experts list a litany of dangers posed by these systems: from digital dehumanization that reduces human beings into lines of code for a machine to determine who should live or die, to a lowered cost and threshold for warfare that replaces ground troops with algorithms.” This absurd point of view published by “972 Magazine” and written by Sophia Goodfriend basically says it's unfair Israel gets to reduce the use of human beings in warfare mainly because armed Palestinian opponents do not have the same capability.

First, it should be noted that with annual budgets allocated to Palestinian causes reaching billions, most of these terrorist organizations and the Palestinian Authority itself have all the opportunity in the world to follow in Israel’s footsteps. Corruption and poor internal governance have misplaced most of these funds, leaving the potential for progress in these militant organizations behind. Sophia Goodfriend’s train of thought also assumes Palestinians have well-thought-out moral objections to technological advancements that would attempt to prevent unnecessary bloodshed, which is certainly not the case.

What “972” likely did not realize before publishing this article titled “How AI is intensifying Israel’s bombardments of Gaza” is they were actually making the average Palestinian look like a fool by assuming they object to the morality of preventing bloodshed. The use of AI and other “algorithms” by the IDF is based on a statistically factual moral concept that less hand-to-hand combat reduces casualties for all sides.

Another article written by Shir Hever and published in “Mondoweiss” July 1, addresses the piece from 972 Magazine and Israel’s use of AI. “In my opinion, the language model, often referred to as ChatGPT, and the ability to fabricate images, sound, and video, realistic enough to seem like authentic documentation, can give unlimited power to users of AI who are rich enough to purchase unrestricted access.” In this very same article where Mondoweiss is trying to fabricate a narrative claiming Zionists are the ones spreading fake news, it also demonstrates why the opposite is true by claiming Israel has installed an autonomous weapon that targets Palestinians. “The Israeli military claims to have already installed an autonomous cannon in Hebron, but Israel lags behind the EU, UK, and U.S. when it comes to regulating AI to minimize risks. Israel is ranked 22nd in the Oxford Insights AI Readiness Index.”

Despite not mentioning the riot-dispersing “machine gun” actually shoots non-lethal sponge grenades, the article also failed to mention that tiny Israel ranks 22 out of 183 countries in AI readiness; a compliment the author probably didn’t mean to give. The Mondoweiss article was a failed cause, to begin with after it began with a complaint about Israel’s showcasing of new technological advancements which impress anti-Zionist scholars and activists. “The Israeli military hype machine famously uses the occupation as a ‘laboratory’ or as a ‘showcase’ for its newly developed weapons, but this creates a dilemma for activists who oppose Israeli arms exports.”

The mistake being made here by the publications mentioned in the latter and a handful of others is directly connected to the very first mistake the entire Palestinian cause made, the same one that prevents them daily from reaching any of their goals: Playing the Victim Card. Victimizing the Palestinians may have and still does help many West Bank and Gaza organizations receive billions of Dollars in funds, but it does nothing for the advancement of actual citizens of the PA.

Instead, it mentally oppresses an entire people into thinking they are crippled in comparison to their Israeli neighbors and can only retaliate through uncoordinated periodical acts of irrational violence toward unarmed Israeli citizens. Thankfully most of the Palestinian public is more intelligent than what these organizations assume, and the day will come when they will rise against their corrupt leadership and stand up for real progress and peace.
