Joseph's Tomb has been a site that has often been defaced by Palestinians

Palestinian vandalists between Monday and Tuesday broke into Joseph's tomb in Nablus, smashed the sacred memorial candle in the tomb and the coffin that surrounds it, and damaged the electricity on-site as well. It’s worth pointing out that Joseph is recognized not only in Judaism but in Islam as well as a biblical figure with significant importance.

According to reports, the rest of the tomb remains intact. The head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, has been in continuous contact since the report with the IDF Samaria Brigade, Col. Shimon Siso. Dagan released a statement after the incident and said: "Once again we are present to see that only the State of Israel and the IDF can guard Joseph's tomb, one of the holy places for the people of Israel. "The abandonment of Joseph’s Tomb by Ehud Barak 23 years ago was one of the cowardly and irresponsible acts committed by the State of Israel. It is time to fix it. The terrorist Palestinian Authority should not be the one to guard the holy places of Israel."

The severe case of vandalism comes as the IDF operation in Jenin enters its second day. As part of the Jenin operation, the IDF uncovered a tunnel filled with explosives and weapons under a mosque in Jenin. Between Monday and Tuesday and after an activity by the IDF soldiers of the Eguz unit and Yahalom, on the basis of accurate intelligence information from the Shin Bet, the shafts and tunnels in the El Anatzer Mosque in the refugee camp of Jenin were completely neutralized. In addition, during the activity, K9 units operated in the area and transmitted back tactical intelligence to the maneuvering forces. The commander of the Eguz unit, Lt. Col. M., said that "the tunnels dug in the mosque turned it into a fortified target."

In addition, throughout the night IDF forces located observation points, other tunnel shafts, and many explosives. Several terrorists were arrested, including key terrorist operatives. An Israeli security official said that "the resistance of the armed militants tonight was low, they ran away from the targets we reached". There are no casualties among the IDF forces.

IDF spokesman Brigadier General Daniel Hagari added that "there is no point in the Jenin refugee camp where the IDF did not operate tonight." According to him, there are still about ten points left for which there is information about the concentration of terrorist means and the activity to eliminate them will continue.

Hagari further noted that the IDF arrested more than 120 wanted terrorists and attacked more than twenty targets from the air over the past 24 hours, including a warehouse of weapons. Palestinian sources have reported 9 casualties amongst the armed men in Jenin.
