Many Muslim countries ban alcohol entirely

Despite the usage of religious iconography by Palestinian leaders to rally their base against Israel, it seems that many in the leadership are not 'good Muslims' and use their positions to conceal their love of vice, even at the expense of violating the rules of the host countries they are in.

Border patrol and customs at the airport in the Pakistani city of Karachi recently thwarted the smuggling of alcoholic beverages to the Palestinian embassy in the country, under a concealed shipment that was classified as an "essential item." According to the report, the shipment included 10,548 bottles of hard alcohol, alongside 2,160 bottles of beer. Meanwhile, the report shocked the factions in the Palestinian Authority who described the shipment found as an "insult to the Palestinian people." Alcohol consumption is banned in the Islamic faith and many countries forbid its presence altogether.

According to the Palestinian news agency "Shihab" a member of the revolutionary council of Fatah, Fakhri Barghouti said in a statement that "this is an insult to the people, to our holy ones, and to our war prisoners. Both in Pakistan and Palestine, this is considered a great insult to any Muslim." He further added that "it is the duty of the embassy employees to respect the administrators and traditions of the country in which they represent Palestine, especially when the country is Muslim. The ambassador does not only represent himself but the entire Palestinian cause."

Regardless of the criminal offense, Barghouti also spoke of the moral deterioration of Palestinian officials. "Why do we reach such a level of immoral offenses? 80% of PA ambassadors in the countries of the world take advantage of their positions to trade and fulfill their personal interests, more so than the interest of the Palestinian cause, and display the suffering of our people to the world."

Barghouti then attempted to connect the Israeli government to the offenses of the PA diplomats against their national religion and noted that "since the Oslo agreement until this moment, we have not felt a practical and clear achievement by the PA's ambassadors, at all levels, especially those working in the countries that agreed on 'normalization' with the Israelis."

According to the Pakistani reports, the Foreign Ministry asked the Palestinian Authority embassy to come and inspect the container packed with alcohol, but the embassy denied any connection and refused to send a representative for the inspection process. Reports of Palestinian diplomats disregarding both state laws and the Muslim faith are far from anything new or surprising. The Pakistani press published reports in the past proving the ambassadors of the Palestinian Authority in Pakistan are taking advantage of the diplomatic missions' customs exemption in order to import luxury vehicles.
