A terrorist armed with a knife was shot and killed Friday morning after he entered the Tana Omer settlement in the southern Hebron mountain and tried to stab people near a synagogue in the settlement. According to the residents, the person who shot the terrorist is a member of the settlement's emergency security squad. There were no casualties in the incident, except for the terrorist himself.

In the documentation published later, the moment when the terrorist entered the settlement can be seen through a video taken from the security camera at the checkpoint at the entrance to the settlement, where he is seen crawling under the gate, holding a knife in his hand. There doesn't seem to be any security guard at the gate, and the terrorist gets in unhindered.

Immediately upon receiving the initial reports of the incident, the IDF Home Front Command issued a warning about suspected terrorist infiltration into Tana Omer. "Enter the buildings immediately, lock the doors, and close the windows," said the command's message to the residents. The army later said that "extensive forces are searching the settlement". The instruction to stay at home remained in place for about two hours until the Home Front Command announced that "the handling of the incident has ended."

The Tana Omer settlement, where about 1,000 Israeli residents live, was established in 1983 by a government decision as a response to the attack in Dahariya in the Hebron area, in which Esther Ohana from Beit Shean was murdered. Near the settlement is the Mor Farm, which is engaged in raising sheep and horses, and where a stabbing attack took place in 2017 in which an Israeli was slightly injured. He then managed to shoot the terrorist who stabbed him and kill him.

The attempted attack this morning comes during a relatively quiet security period in Judea and Samaria, at least in relation to the wave of terrorism earlier this year. Regardless, the tensions in the area are still very high, and just last Monday there was a shooting attack in Samaria, during which fire was opened at a car traveling between the Tapuach intersection and the Magalim intersection.

A mother and her four daughters were in the car, and in dramatic footage filmed from the inside, a flurry of shots could be heard at the car; and then the mother screams in a panic to her daughters: "Bend down, bend down! Girls, are you all right?". One of the bullets hit the gap between the windshield and the hood.
