The Jewish community of Kochav Yaakov

A 9-year-old girl was injured, apparently by stray bullets from a Palestinian Authority-run village near Kochav Ya'akov in the Benjamin Regional Council, while she was walking on one of the streets of her community. A Magen David Adom team evacuated her fully conscious to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, where she was treated and released to recover at home.

At the same time, the Israel Defense Forces Home Front Command issued a warning for fear of terrorist infiltration and called on the residents of the Jewish community to lock themselves in their homes, however, minutes later announced that the fear had been removed: "This is not a security incident. Residents can leave their homes and move around the area without restriction." The IDF spokesperson also updated on the incident and stated that "Following the report of the injury of an Israeli girl, the security forces began scanning the area, and infiltration of the settlement was out-ruled."

From a preliminary examination,  it appears that "it was a stray shot that was carried out in the area and not a direct shot at her." The initial report of the shooting was received at MDA's 101 hotline at 7:14 PM on Friday about "a girl who was brought to a local clinic in Kochav Ya'akov after apparently being wounded by a stray shot while walking on the streets in Kochav Ya'akov."

The event comes against the background of the ongoing security tensions in the Judea and Samaria region, but relatively quiet in comparison to earlier this year. Such warnings from the Home Front Command can cause great concern. The event came just after another incident on Friday morning when a terrorist armed with a knife was shot and killed after he entered a settlement and tried to stab people near a synagogue. According to the residents, the person who shot the terrorist is a member of the settlement's emergency security squad. There were no casualties in the incident, except for the terrorist himself.

In the documentation published later, the terrorist can be seen entering the settlement, and in the video taken from the security camera at the checkpoint at the entrance to the settlement, he is seen crawling under the gate, holding a knife in his hand. There doesn't seem to be any security guard at the gate, and the IDF is investigating the incident. The main question being examined now is how the Palestinian terrorist was able to penetrate the settlement unimpeded, through the main entrance gate.
