Halevi urged Netanyahu in meeting to help end comments against reservists

Following a momentous day in the Knesset, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel Defense Forces Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi held a meeting on Monday evening that spanned more than two hours. The objective was to assess the situation within the IDF amid ongoing threats of refusal to serve. During the meeting, the Chief of Staff presented a comprehensive overview of the security landscape, the IDF's capabilities, and the potential implications of the legislation on the IDF's competence and unity. Based on the briefing, the Chief of Staff reassured the Prime Minister that the IDF stands fully capable and prepared for any mission.

At the meeting, Halevi urged Netanyahu to call upon ministers and Knesset members to refrain from making any statements that might undermine the IDF and its personnel, regardless of whether they are on active duty or reserves. The Chief of Staff stressed the negative impact of such statements on the competence and cohesion of the IDF. He emphasized the IDF's unwavering commitment to maintaining its competence and unity even amidst this tense period, assuring that commanders would take all necessary measures to safeguard the State of Israel and its citizens.

Prior to this meeting, ongoing communication between the Prime Minister and the Chief of Staff ensured regular updates on the evolving situation. In a previous meeting last week, intelligence assessments, strategic implications, and potential effects on the IDF's competence and cohesion due to the legislative process were presented. Consequently, daily assessments of the IDF's situation have been conducted, with the Minister of Defense being kept updated on the details and the Prime Minister's military secretary keeping him informed.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, the meeting between Netanyahu and the Chief of Staff was postponed due to the Prime Minister's health condition. In the meantime, Halevi provided a detailed position paper on the security situation, strategic implications, and the impact on the IDF's competence and cohesion. After reviewing the document, the two leaders convened for the full meeting on Monday, during which further relevant data was shared with the Prime Minister.

Additionally, the office of Defense Minister Gallant announced that, in accordance with the Prime Minister and Defense Minister's directions, the IDF would be briefing cabinet ministers on the security situation and the readiness of the IDF in the morning.
