After last week’s meeting between Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud "Abu Mazen" Abbas and Jordanian King Abdullah, an official within the PA said that "the Palestinians and Jordan share a common concern about the possible strengthening of Saudi Arabia in Jerusalem and in Al-Aqsa in particular.” While just a few years ago the thought of a Saudi presence in Jerusalem would concern Israelis far more than their Jordanian and Palestinian peers, it seems the tables have completely turned. Even though no official Saudi or Israeli statement has been made on the matter, there are many rumors that the Saudi Kingdom as part of their normalization with Israel will seek a more ‘hands-on’ approach to the Palestinian issue; the question is why would the Chairman of the PA be so terribly concerned with such a noble thing.

In recent years, Palestinian activism has frequently employed three keywords that have resonated with a global audience of sympathizers: "Apartheid", "Oppression", and "Two-State Solution". While there's no denying the efficacy of these terms in advocating for Palestinian statehood, logically, they seem to be at odds with each other. Addressing one, when they're used in conjunction, seems impossible. This observation has deeper implications, ones that many Israelis recognize: The ultimate triumph of Palestinian activism could lead to the end of Israel and a third wave of Diaspora Jewry, often accompanied by significant strife.

These unsuccessful endeavors to relocate Jews to places like modern-day Kenya and Russia's far-east bear significant implications for the contemporary Western perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, wherein Jewish sentiment towards modern-day Israel is perceived as negotiable, while Palestinian-Arabs' claims to the land are deemed unquestionable.

Many in Israel and abroad are screaming over what they call the decline of Israel’s democracy after the Knesset passed controversial legislation. However, it is the decline in another staple of a democratic society that is more concerning. Consider this: A duly elected government passes a law, one that has stoked controversy and seems widely unpopular, and the next day all the newspapers run the same “cover story” decrying the tragedy that has just befallen the nation. But, later it is revealed that these were not cover stories; they were advertisements—a paid campaign to make it look like the world was ending; a lament that a tragedy as big as the destruction of the two Holy Temples that we commemoratively mourn today has befallen the Jewish nation.
